inhibiting the production of melanin. More specifically, kojic acid reacts with
an amino acid called tyrosine to produce melanin. By stopping the production of
melanin, kojic acid can reverse excessive darkening of the skin.
GLUTATHIONE. It is the major endogenous antioxidant produced by the
cells, participating directly in the neutralization of free radicals and
reactive oxygen compounds. The strong antioxidant properties of glutathione
helps keep skin cells running smoothly. Glutathione competitively inhibits
melanin synthesis in the reaction of tyrosinase and L-DOPA
(L-3,4-dihydroxyphenylalanine) by interrupting L-DOPA’s ability to bind
tyrosinase during melanin synthesis. The inhibition of melanin synthesis was
reversed by increasing the concentration of L-DOPA, but not by increasing
tyrosinase. These results indicate that glutathione inhibits the synthesis and
agglutination of melanin by interrupting the function of L-DOPA.
CLAIR BLANCHE. The whitening effect of Clair Blanche, which contains 7
whitening ingredients, was evaluated by 2 melanin production inhibition tests
for tyrosinase activity and B16 melanoma cells. Clair Blanche showed a whitening
effect superior to that of Hydroquinone, and was proven effective as a total
whitening care product in prevention and development of pigmented spots and
freckles in the skin due to exposure to sun.
